As the Gulf Coast of Texas and Houston (one of the United States’ largest cities) continues to deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, now downgraded to a tropical storm, other natural disasters were happening on the other side of the world.

The 2017 monsoon season has devastated a large part of South Asia, an area that suffers from frequent flooding due to relentless rains this time of year.

 

What they aren’t used to are the fatal floods that have taken the lives of thousands of people throughout India, Bangladesh, and Nepal and let millions of others in peril.

According to international aid agencies, at least 1,200 lives have been lost as a result with millions more left homeless. Relief workers said thousands of villages have been cut off by flooding and people are going without food and clean water for days.

 

Homes Are Completely Under Water

 

India has been greatly affected with the eastern state of Bihar seeing unparalleled devastation as the death toll there has risen to more than 500, with another 17 million people in India affected by the flooding waters.

 

Thousands are taking shelter in relief camps.
