According to international aid agencies, at least 1,200 lives have been lost as a result with millions more left homeless. Relief workers said thousands of villages have been cut off by flooding and people are going without food and clean water for days.

India has been greatly affected with the eastern state of Bihar seeing unparalleled devastation as the death toll there has risen to more than 500, with another 17 million people in India affected by the flooding waters.
