The mayor of Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti, Louis Farrakhan, The Game, And Snoop Dogg recently teamed up in an effort to make a change. Both of the rappers are well-known gang members with Snoop reppin’ the Cripps and The Game reppin’ the Bloods. The goal of these two linking up was to spread the message in their hometown of L.A. that the black on black or brown on brown killing has got to stop.
The Game preached that when fighting for black lives there is constant contradiction due the high number of killings being within one’s own race. He touched on a very serious and eye-opening reality; It is hard to convince those who oppose that black lives matter or brown lives matter when communities riddled with gang violence are constantly killing each other. How does a group so oppressed stand strong against violence and fight for their lives when their actions don’t imply that they care about the lives of their own people?
It’s a controversial argument to make and no doubt stirred the pot among gang members, but the turnout for the event (which coaxed unity) shows that there are plenty of people who back this positive school of thought and change could very well be on its way!
