On January 21, 2017, the Women’s March made history when millions of people took to the streets in cities around the world in peaceful protest. While the Women’s March initially started as a grassroots gathering in Washington, D.C., it lead the way for more marches to crop up all over the United States and worldwide.

All in all, it was reported that 408 marches took place in the United States with 168 international marches spanning the globe.

In a sea of pink and solidarity, crowds swelled and spilled out into the streets as protesters of all creeds, backgrounds and genders sent a message to the world that they are standing up for what they believe in.

A mission statement on the Women’s March official website said: “In the spirit of democracy and honoring the champions of human rights, dignity, and justice who have come before us, we join in diversity to show our presence in numbers too great to ignore.”
