Race. It’s a very sensitive subject these days. It almost seems at times, that mention of skin color in even the slightest way can lead to a very serious serious and heated discussion on race and almost certainly conclude with someone being accused of being purposely racist.
It’s complicated, of course- particularly in America where the entire country was metaphorically and arguably literally built on the backs of brown-skinned people. From native americans being forced out of their land by the white man to hundreds of years of slavery and continued systemic oppression of black men and women, there is no denying this ugly truth.
Recently, the subject was almost unavoidably brought up again when a popular soap brand released a very questionable ad. The ad which contains a variety of women with a variety of different skin tones caught a whole new world of backlash after a few folks shared a snapshot from the ad in question.
Do You See How This Attempt At Marketing Might Be Construed As Racist?
Looking at just this clip alone will certainly raise a few questions for most and understandably so. Well, PLENTY of people noticed that there was something not right about this Dove soap advertisement and in true 2017 form, folks took to Twitter to express their distaste for this highly questionable ad and it’s racist implications.
